Local Area - Tourist Attractions & Things to do

From Thorntree there is so much to see and things to do, that we can only scratch the surface here. Stirling and Doune Castles, The Trossachs, Loch Lomond and the Lake of Mentieth are only 15 minutes away: Edinburgh is about an hour and Glasgow 45 minutes. In the living room there are plenty of reference and local guide books, and the Seymours are always happy to give advice about what to do in the area.

Sunset from Thorntree towards Ben LomondThe scenery and countryside are a major attraction for visitors to Scotland , and Thorntree is a very central base from which to explore. We have visitors who go as far as Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen, all of which can be reached in the day.

There is much to do withing easy reach. There are numerous Golf courses (including Gleneagles) within one hours drive. Trout fishing is available locally and if you are a walker or climber, then Thorntree is an ideal base. In the winter, the ski areas at Glencoe and Glenshee are just over one hour, and Aonach Moor just a little more.

Glasgow and Edinburgh are both less than one hour way and both cities have a vibrant range of Museums, Art Galleries, Theatres and other attractions. Oban (ferries to some of the Isles) and St Andrews are easily reached for day visits from Thorntree.

The barn now has a DVD player, but if you want to go to the Cinema, there are new multi screen facilities in Stirling, Glasgow and Falkirk. The nearest cinema is in Stirling.

There are excellent Pub and Pub Restaurants within a few minutes of Thorntree for those who like to eat out.
